#17: Update on film thingy

I have about 100 of these poses all for reference for the Animatic, since it has to be in more detail. I'm in the process of drawing over them and drawing more poses in between to make things more movie like.

Progress

Dathier's rough model is done. He has skin and joints as well but I need to go back and tweak those a bit to get a good pose for the animatic.

Concept and Premise

Concept: Even in the safest place, you cannot escape your fear.

Premise: Dathier, originally human, was cursed and turned into this rag doll form. He became weak, and afraid of the dark unknown. In order to become whole again, or human, Dathier will have to find the fairy of light that will use her magic to make him human again, but she has been kidnapped by the darkness, so it is up to Dathier to save her before the darkness harms her. Even though he doesn't exactly know where she is or where to start, the fairy uses her magic as best as she can to lead him to her, he will have to follow his heart and embrace the unknown to go in the right direction.

13A: Storyboard

#13B-2: Production Progress, Set and props

Yes, I have 3 different scenes, and maybe I will have to simplify but I really want to do these. Again I will not be animating in the future, so hopefully my designs (which I enjoy doing) are good.

My second scene is after Dathier falls through the trap door, he will appear here where he has to make a decision.

The final scene, after Dathier goes through the door straight ahead.

13B: Character model sheet and extras

Dathier and Fae
I know that we shouldn't have a second character... but I really can't avoid it for this story. The fairy is my secondary character. She will have maybe 3-4 movements, so not that much. The simple character, Dathier is my main character where most of the animation will occur. He is also very simple as far as rigging, so he should be built and rigged fairly fast. I tried to make these character sheets as "professional" as I could, considering that this is more of what I want to focus on. I have realized my passion is more for the production, and layout rather than the modeling, rigging, and animation. So I will not be taking the next character animation class. Yes, I know there are probably some more production lessons in the next class, but I feel like I need to move on and practice the things I learned in this class, and keep enhancing this skill, rather than worrying about animating (honestly it frustrates me, and I do not wish to be forced into something I am not 100% happy about/good at). Anyway, here are my character action sheets, facial, model sheets, color options, wing options, final character designs complete with color, and the scale sheet to give you an idea for how big the characters are compared to each other.

#10B: Story Board Rough Sketch

This is really late and is also super rough.... Once my second animation is out of the way I will be able to focus more on doing a better story board but here is a general idea.....

#10A: Short Film Proposal

I do not have full sketches yet at this point in time due to being so tied down with everything else, but I did write out a little story for my character and did a quick sketch of my character, the other drawings will come later, probably around Wednesday..

Where is My Savior?
Dathier was cursed due to his selfish actions. He was once human and now has been turned into a weak powerless ragdoll.  Dathier was then sent on a quest, to find the fairy of light that had been captured by the “dark ones”. Through his journey he became more self aware, more understanding of his capabilities due to his cursed state. The “dark ones” followed him and all he could do was run. A coward he became. Yet, a voice spoke to him, a voice that gave him strength to fight, someone to fight for. Was this the fairy? It was.. She was able to communicate to him and reach out. He had someone to fight for, someone to make all his selfish deeds disappear.
For this project I will have my main character Dathier either in a field with a pathway with a door, or he will be on a hill looking down at a city. Then he will either enter the door or enter the city (camera will cut to city if he is looking at it). Then he will search multiple rooms or buildings, opening doors, feeling more and more frantic and afraid as the scene becomes darker and darker, this will have creepy sound effects (indicating that the dark ones are near). Then he finally finds the door (after 2 or 3 tries, he will have to either ram into the door or hit a button to unlock the door). And there standing is the fairy of light turning to look at him then smiling, kneeling down and arms out stretched. Camera cuts to side view of fairy and Dathier. Dathier runs and jumps into the fairy’s arms. The scene ends here. This will have to consist of multiple scenes with different environments, just to make things easier, especially the room with the fairy. This may or may not have to be cut down in order to fit the requirments.

2D Animation

Character Action Sheet

This is Mongo. He's a smart and playful character, but he is afraid of the littlest things. He uses magic energy to levitate and move objects around. Mongo is a good little sidekick to help you on your adventure (he's good at stocking up on the healing potions).

#3: Character with Textures

My robot character all finished with textures. I realized adding the textures I originally wanted to add were difficult to figure out. So, I added simple textures which I think worked out pretty well. I like the color combination of reddish orange, pale green, and blues.

Character for Project 1

Modeling is I believe all done.. He's very simple but I'd rather spend my time on making the animation look good.

Lamp unfinished

This is very unfinished due to me trying my best to make this close as I can...
